Overview
Introduction The Florida and Caribbean Chapter is one of 58 established by the Special Libraries Association ( SLA ) and was established in 1969. The SLA Florida and Caribbean Chapter membership includes over 260 members with an active interest in the information professional community. Special librarians are information resource experts who collect, analyze, evaluate, package, and disseminate information to facilitate accurate decision-making in corporate, academic, and government settings. As information professionals, Chapter members are employed with corporations, private businesses, government agencies, newspapers, museums, colleges, hospitals, associations and information management consulting firms.
Mission The Chapter's mission is that of the SLA - to promote learning, advocacy, and networking initiatives. Goals The goals of the Chapter are to Advance the leadership role of chapter members by putting knowledge to work Shape the destiny of today's information and knowledge-based society Offer creative opportunities to develop and improve professional skills Build a synergistic network of Chapter members who actively and regularly reach out to one another. What does the Chapter have to offer you? How about... A multi-talented group of professionals who enjoy getting together to network and share ideas and solutions to challenging problems. A group of diverse personalities who work in a variety of information environments creating and delivering tailor-made information and knowledge services to their users and clientele. A creative, cohesive and loyal circle of colleagues who are there for each other with advice and suggestions when the need arises, the information demands seem unattainable or the deadline seems impossible to meet.
